Healthy aging - Fitness
Everyone gets older. Older adults face certain challenges, that
may prevent them from getting proper nutrition and exercise.
As we age, our activity level decreases. We need to increase
some nutrients and decrease the amount of calories in our diet
due to less activities. It is important to understand your body
and adjust your diet and exercise to your age.
Low impact fitness programs, like swimming, walking, yoga, Tai
Chi are great for older adults. Strength training can keep bones
and muscles strong, retain healthy joints, prevent soggy skin,
improve balance, prevent injuries.
Having a healthy cardiovascular system, which supplies blood and
oxygen to every part of the body, is key to living a long and
healthy life. Experts suggest that exercising until you break a
sweat every day will help override the code of aging. If you
start any kind of aerobic exercise today, you will be healthier
next year.
Find an exercise program that suits your personality and
lifestyle. If you do not enjoy it, it is more likely you will
not do it. 60% of people drop out exercise program within
first six months, and 90% drop-out after 2 years. Determine, if
you prefer intensive aerobic, weight lifting and yoga classes,
slow workout at home or outdoor activities.
There are many thing people can do to stay healthy as they age.
Everyone has a different goal, but the end result should be the
same: mental and physical health throughout life.
