Deep Vein thrombosis - DVT new treatments
Deep Vein Thrombosis, or DVT is a
blood clot that can form in your legs and move to your lungs,
where it could be fatal. Deep vein thrombosis or DVT is
effecting many people. In fact, DVT blood clots contribute to
more death each year, than AIDS and breast cancer combined. The symptoms are: pain in legs, swollen, red
hot on touch skin. Blood clots are very dangerous. They can travel in
the bloodstream to your lungs and heart. It could cause
difficulty breathing and even death.
Untreated blood clots may progress to chronic legs pain, ulcers
and infection. Until recently, the treatments for DVT were:
blood thinning drugs ( heparin, Coumadin
)
and permanent filters, implanted
into your body to catch the clot.
New treatments for patients with DVT are retrievable filters.
The procedure consists of taking a clot-busting drug, TPA and
implanting a retrievable filter into the body. TPA forces clot to flow toward
the filter to prevent movement toward lungs. Retrievable filters
are more patient -friendly treatment of clots.
Are you at risk to develop DVT blood clots?
Knowing the risk factor for DVT can prevent the complications.

greater chance to develop DVT, if they are: over 60 years old,
